Love is in the air as today is Valentine’s Day, a day when many show their appreciation and love for one another in different ways. And of course what is Valentine’s without the time-honored tradition of sending flowers to the one you love?
Sending flowers dates back to the 18th century in Sweden where they sent flowers as a message without using a verbal word.
On Guam, the Pay-Less Floral Shoppe starts preparing for Valentine’s Day weeks in advance and display more floral arrangements than usual at smaller store locations around the island.
Joy Calvo, Pay-Less Supermarkets floral manager said: “Even the smaller stores like Mangilao. They may have a smaller chill box for your everyday, but during Valentine’s, during Mother’s Day, we actually have containers in the back of the store filled with flowers. Just so we can cater to everybody in all the stores.”
Pricing and arrangement options vary for all budgets with smaller arrangements starting at around $10 dollars and ranging all the way to $99 for a bouquet of roses. Yesterday alone, Pay-Less stores had 1800 floral transactions collectively.
“We have different arrangements for different pricing. We try to cater to everyone’s budget. And we just try to make smiles happen,” Calvo said.
